What does everyone think about it? Personally, I don't like it. I want Bernard Gibson BACK! Getting rid of Bernard changed the whole group dynamic harmonies. Bernard added a balance that was needed in the background. How can we have a group with THREE lead singers who have Ruffin-esque voices? Where does this leave Mike & Chris??? Personally, I feel Ali is better off doing his 'solo' thing than coming back to a group dynamic. I'm quite surprised he's actually agreed to be a part of a group. This is just my opinion about the current change in personnel. I have nothing against Ali, for I think he's a fine singer. However, he kinda 'upset' the balance. I hope we can discuss this in a civilize manner without making jabs or potshots, namecalling, etc. Just interested in reading everyone's thoughts on the situation.

i agree--i liked it better with Bernard. While Ali is a very good singer, there seems to be just a bit to many lead parts at once. Plus, i also noticed certain songs have been taken away from the show..and others added--not that the new material isn't good in its on right..just..i was counting on hearing "rainy night in georgia" and was disappointed that it wasn't included in the show.

(((SeainDennis))) I agree. I believe another poster pointed out that with Ali there are 3 David Ruffin style singers. Dennis,David S.and Ali. I too was surprised that Ali joined the group. Personally I don't think it will work (personality wise). What suprises me is the fact they let Bernard go,and kept Ali. Although I have to admit Ali sings the hell out of My Girl.

Has anybody seen a show yet with the new line up? If so could you please let us know who sings lead on what songs now and what songs have been added and deleated from the show.
Also on a previous thread whether or not behind the scenes stuff should be discussed is another matter. However not knowing I'm glad someone at least informed us of the line up change.
Any answer would be greatly appreciated

Any answer would be greatly appreciated I posted informing this board of the new line-up, with a link to some of their schedule, almost two weeks ago ;D I attended the shows in Warren MI. Wonderful!! They were full shows, with only a comedian on as opener. It was pretty much the same shows/song lineups as I've seen before. With Ali in the line-up the songs were led like this (in no particular order, I didn't write it down...) David = Ain't Too Proud to Beg Wish It would Rain Beauty is only Skin Deep, Bridge of "You're My Everything". verses 2 and 3 of My Girl, Ali = Some Enchanted Evening Lady Soul, Treat Her like a Lady Don't Look Back, Stay. Dennis, Chris and Mike did their usual leads, with Dennis doing an outstanding "Song For You" (with "Memories" in the middle on Saturday). Ali took over the parts Bernard used to do on the multi-lead songs. Friday night Dennis was obviously very ill, very pale and had to sit down thru some parts of the songs, but he kept on going. He said onstage that he had the flu. His voice was still powerful, but he wasn't able to hit the high notes on "Song For You" and left "Memories" out. I was told later that he spent time in the hospital after the show on Friday night, but being the true professional he is, he was there Saturday also, and looked much much better. (and just really killed the high notes on "Song for You" ;D ) Friday night uniforms were the red embroidered ones they wore on the last PBS special, Saturday night were the lavender with dark lapels and silver decoration all over that temptsguitargirl took pictures of.

Oh, and Chris did the lead on "Just My Imagination", which Bernard used to do. For those who missed the link showing a somewhat more complete schedule than I've been able to find on either Pollstar or Ticketmaster, here is a link to the schedule at Ali's website: aliolliewoodson.com/tourdates.html

LOL... well I was watching the Review not the clock, but I'd say it was at least an hour and a half show of the Review. Supposed to start at 8, with the comedian on first, but neither show started on time. I can't be more accurate than that, but I've seen "short shows" with not as many of the Psychedelic type songs in there, and certainly not all the "Long songs" (song for you, some enchanted evening, lady soul, I wish it would rain.). We did get "Can't Get Next to You", "Ball of Confusion", "Psychedelic Shack", "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" and "Cloud nine". I don't know that I've seen ALL of those in any one show before. They did not do the "vocal" tribute part with each member doing a portion of the honoree's song, like I've seen done before... but of course the tribute was there. On Friday night, Mama Rose was in the house & was introduced during the show, and Melvin came last in the tribute order with more compliments to Mama Rose as well as her son, of course.

I hope that those who aren't happy about Bernard leaving will have the opportunity to give the new line-up a chance. Much as I have always liked and enjoyed Bernard, Ali adds a new dynamic and spark. But there was no show-boating or hot-dogging going on, he fit VERY well within the group, the harmonies were tight... and if eye contacts and smiles between the members is any indication, they all seemed to be having fun with it onstage.

one more quick note...
the only "Ruffin lead" that Ali did was "My Baby"... I forgot that one (not my favorite Ruffin song to begin with. Ali did fine with it)

I'll admit I have my doubts. I guess I will have to hear them for myself but that looks like it will be a long time in the making. The Review is not headed in this direction anytime soon, seeing that Dennis has cut down his tour schedule to write his book.

However, IMO i still favor the sound with Bernard in it. ;D ;D ;D
