I truly enjoyed the Walk of Fame for Aretha on BET. It was one of their best and classier shows. One thing about the performers there last night - to me- they all could sing. No one was half naked, no one was talkin slang every few seconds and in my opinion, Aretha looks good! I liked her dress - she is a heavy set woman and for her - it looked nice. I think Chaka is one of the most underrated vocals out there. Like Aretha Franklin, Chaka is a "song stylist" she takes a tune and makes it her own - she sings it in her style. Aretha can sing other peoples tunes and make them her own as with Chaka. Alot of people try to cop Chaka but they can't - but Chaka can get one of their tunes and sing it better than them. Chaka has never gotten the credit she deserves. Chaka loves Aretha and stated that Aretha is her "ONLY MENTOR". To me, all of the artists did very well. I love Gerald Levert. It was a pleasant and refreshing change. Mary J. got a standing ovation because she is not that great of a singer but she is soulful and she tries HARD and SEASONED people KNOW THIS! Mary J. fraternizes with the best namely Chaka and Aretha. Hopefully in time as she masters her craft, Mary J. will get better. She was CLEAN - I loved that dress she had on. Tina Marie without a doubt can blow BUT she did do too may riffs. All and all I truly enjoyed the show. The hairpiece coming off was done for a reason (smile).... It shows that when you are TRULY an ARTIST it ain't about LOOKS all the time - it's about YOUR CRAFT, not your hair, not your clothes but your ARTISTRY. People like ARETHA FRANKLIN could do that and get away with it! Peace and Blessings to all....
"They throw the word 'DIVA' around too much. Aretha you are my only mentor and you are the ONLIEST one who is a DIVA" Chaka Khan....
