Well guys I had told CP that Mike was at the BET Awards and he looks good! He has gained weight - he really looks good and so does Latoya BUT you know that we as Black People can't hold it. LOL! I told my kid "oooohhh weee Mike look good, he's gained weight and he can dance just like James Brown"... My kid lamented "yeah, b'cos he and LaToya coming back to their folks"... I'm serious I was glad to see him, he cried when he gave James Brown the Lifetiime Achievement Award and as usual that joker can dance and yep (I always knew) he did say that James Brown was his influence.... sigh... But ya'all know US... DAYUM! why dey cain't let Mike alone. I will say this, people were crying and jumping up and screaming when they saw him and he was GLAD to be with his folks! I mean the PARTY WAS ON! WHEW! This from tjms... 06/25/03 11:50 AM Edit Reply The King of Pop is Black again. On the BET Awards Show, Michael was reissued his ghetto pass and welcomed him back into the Black community. At the height of his fame, Michael Jackson proclaimed to the whole world that Fred Astaire was the greatest influence in his career. Now that white folks don't like him no more, he runs back to Black people and admits that James Brown is the performer he idolized the most. Welcome back Michael. Too bad it took you so long to embrace your Blackness. It's nice to see that Latoya discovered her Blackness at the same time you did. ------------- Well all I can say is that he was welcomed back with open arms ..... But you know dey was goin there! I'm not surprised... It's gonna be aired again tonight I think, check your listings...

Aso, Ms. Beyonce can SANG.... on the real! I'm sorry for the haters - ya'all know me - I give credit where it's due. Po lil Ashanti needs to go home. It's pitiful, I felt sorry for her. My kid thinks that "Fifty Cents" and Vivica is kickin it! When he came an accepted one of his awards, they flashed the camera to the audience and Vivica's girlfriends were hittin her like "gurlllllll he look good" and Vivica was just grinnin (50 Cents is built - BIG TIME - BUFFED - lol!) Anyhoo, when 50 was thankin folks he thanked HIMSELF (tahahHAHAHHA! LOL!) and he said "Yeah, I wanna THANK VIVICA FOX FOR WEARIN THAT DRESS"! tahahahHAHAHHA! Well, I'm a pop it like this - 50 is a BAD BOY - his image is the Bad Boy image that we as women like I mean like David Ruffin, Ali Woodson, to name a few... VIVICA you got good taste baby! LOL! It was on... Everyone acted nice, everyone looked nice and it was a PARTY. It does show that our people can come together and have fun and behave themselves.. This is one of the best award shows I've seen this year.. oh btw ((((Monique))) did a beautiful job hosting and so did (((J. Anthony Brown)))).. Monique was sharp! I'm sorry she's a big gurl - but that heffa was CLAZENE....She and J. Anthony Brown kept cracking on Bishop Magic Don Juan.... tahahahahahHAHAHAHAHA about his green and gold outfit.. But my man Bishop did not give a dayum! LOL! He was onstage steppin with some of the models/dancers... It was so REFRESHING to see an awards show that the PEOPLE were having FUN! INSTEAD OF EVERYBODY ALWAYS BEING "ON"... being "ON" is in the "HOLLYWOOD B.S. MODE".... IT'S TIME ! IT'S TIME!.... I truly enjoyed this show and from all reports (esp the folks from Tom Joyner's board) everyone that viewed it liked it. All the entertainers "BROUGHT IT"! B'cos they KNEW THEY HAD TO! Their TOUGHEST CRITICS WERE THERE - THEY FOLKS!!!! LOL!

Hey! I did see it was a much talked about topic on the TJMS but I have to agree with the poster who posted that comment. These black entertainers do it time & time again. When they are on top, all of sudden, they are no longer "black" or they're "colorless". When their career is in the dumps, then it's "oh, it feels so good to be among my people". Please spare me! I'm not no "crabs in a barrel" & will support my own regardless but I really get tired of these "I ain't black when I'm on the top, but I'm black when I hit rock bottom" entertainers. I'm glad that Michael FINALLY told the truth about James being the one whom influenced his dance style. Michael must've been listening to Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes "Be For Real". Like the saying goes, what comes up, must come down! Good to see Michael is no longer sleep waking!!

I am madd as hell I missed the show! They don't have BET where I am. I sure wish someone might tape it for me...*hint* *hint* I am glad MJ showed up. I guess he wasn't too busy...not having a hectic schedule anymore. I don't think Michael denied that James Brown was a great influence on him. I remember quite well when Mike imitated James quite well and it wasn't a secret. He also was greatly influenced by DR You can blame it on Berry if he became a lil too white. Afterall, Berry wanted his acts to be accepted by them. Mike probably thought that was the way to be, especially after idolizing Diane all those years.

FF, I guess what I'm trying to say is that, yes, Michael said he was influenced by James, but the overall impression seemed to be out was that Fred Astaire, not JB, that had the bigger impact on him. At least, that's how he came off when he discussed his influences. And you know, I never know that DR was an influence of his until I read Tony's book.

Seain, I was lucky enough to have been around back in the day. It was common knowledge then exactly who influenced MJ. He used to mimic DR to a tee! When he first started out, he danced just like James. I guess after his star began to rise, he started to assimilate with the other folks. Again...Berry.
