BROTHERS GONNA WORK IT OUT
Funk Brothers tell Motown story from their side.
reported by: EUR
*The Funk Brothers, who helped create some of the biggest sounds and names of Motown through the '60s and '70s, are telling their story in the new film "Standing In The Shadows of Motown." The film tells the story about being a studio musician at the legendary label and more. It's due to hit theaters on November 15, but One Funk Brother, Jack Ashford, gave reporters a little about the project's subject matter in advance. He described the change of sound at Motown thanks to legendary artist Marvin Gaye. "... After we cut What's Going On?, I went home and told my wife, I said, 'That was a different kind of session. For one thing we would usually end the song and say 'OK, next song.' Marvin wanted to segue from one thing to the other. And I said, 'Now that's different ... that was just the most different session I'd ever done," he said. While you wait for the film release, the soundtrack hits stores September 24. The CD features songs from the Funk Brothers reunion concert featuring Motown classics sung by artists such as Joan Osborne, Chaka Khan, Bootsy Collins, Ben Harper, Gerald Levert, and others.
