Target 'Christmas Song' Gets Grammy Nod
reported by: AP MUSIC NEWS
MINNEAPOLIS - Target Corp. officials received a nice post-holiday return on their investment in "Christmas Song," sung by India.Arie and Stevie Wonder. It's been nominated for a Grammy. The specially commissioned version of the "chestnuts roasting on an open fire" tune appeared in Target commercials during the holidays. Three ads combined the vocals with images, and a fourth featured India.Arie and Wonder performing, Target spokesman Douglas Kline said recently. Store officials, who weren't aware the song had been submitted for consideration, were dumbfounded when they learned of the nomination, Kline said. He said Target brought India.Arie and Wonder together for the song. The commercials were shot in New York City in July. A spokesman for India.Arie's label confirmed that Motown Records had submitted "Christmas Song," which appears as a bonus track only on special versions of her "Voyage to India" CD, available at Target stores and on its Web site. Other nominees in the pop collaboration with vocals category are "Dirrty" (Christina Aguilera, featuring Redman), "What a Wonderful World" (Tony Bennett and k.d. lang), "Better Than Anything" (Natalie Cole and Diana Krall), "It's So Easy" (Sheryl Crow and Don Henley and "The Game of Love" (Santana and Michelle Branch). The 45th annual Grammy Awards will be presented Feb. 23 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
