Dennis Edwards, is by far, one of the greatest lead singers the Temptations have had. Although David laid the foundation for which the Tempts were built; it was Dennis who was responsible for the Tempts garnering their first grammy. Dennis is not recognized enough. He should be given his props while he is still here. We claim we love Dennis, but we very rarely give him his just due. This board was designed for all who love Dennis and wish him continue success in his endeavors. So feel free to blow this board up! True but dont you think with Ruff, they would have eventually received their first grammy anyway? Come on, even though yall think Dennis is the best, Ruff is just as good at least. Ruff could have landed them a grammy if he stayed just a little longer. It may have been a while longer but still they would have received one anyway. Sorry, David Ruffin is my favorite and he was Dennis's best friend so gotta spread the love.

Maybe they "could have",maybe they "should have"won one with David....but they "didn't" win until Dennis Edwards got with them. Anything else is for the imagination.

I AGREE WITH YOU RUFFSIDE--COULD HAVE, WOULD HAVE, SHOULD HAVE--THE BOTTOM LINE IS...THEY DIDN'T WIN THE GRAMMY UNTIL DENNIS GOT WITH THEM.

I AGREE WITH YOU RUFFSIDE--COULD HAVE, WOULD HAVE, SHOULD HAVE--THE BOTTOM LINE IS...THEY DIDN'T WIN THE GRAMMY UNTIL DENNIS GOT WITH THEM. Dennis Edwards was and is today one of the best lead singers. However David Ruffin was the greatest Temptation. Period. It was Dennis Edwards voice that was responsible for their first Grammy. David Ruffin indeed paved the way. It was David Ruffin that gave them their first BIG hit. The Temptations were DUE. Taking nothing away from Dennis because he deserves to be recognized for his great contribution to the Temptations. But it was David E Ruffin that took The Temptations to the top and kept them there. The Temptations weren't better after David's departure. Their sound changed and they remained on top. Thanks to Dennis Edwards.

Dennis came in and kept them there.

Marge, I agree with you. There is no way in hell they would not have gotten a grammy with Ruffin. In all actuality, that grammy was a token. There is no way in hell My Girl wasn't grammy material. I guess the powers that be decided to give the Tempts their well deserved grammy after skipping over them for several years. Ruffin was the driving force. Unfortunately, he was not around during grammy time. Fortunately Dennis was a dynamite replacement who kept The Tempts on top with his own unique style. I love them both and don't compare them. They are both the bomb!
If Cloud Nine was The Tempts first hit, do you think they would have got a grammy?

If Cloud Nine was The Tempts first hit, do you think they would have got a grammy? Naw Fast. You know how it works. Tempts had to pay some dues. Cloud Nine was grammy material, but you understand how they do it.

They are both the bomb! If Cloud Nine was The Tempts first hit, do you think they would have got a grammy? There were a lot of Motown artists and non Motown black artists that were deserving of a grammy prior to 1968. The Temptations were a virtual hit-making machine that could no longer be denied. Dennis Edwards was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. I'm not knocking Dennis's talent either. David Ruffin's voice was the vehicle that propelled the Tempts into music history, and Dennis happened to reinforce what David started. The black artists, not only at Motown, had long been deprived of their just due and recognition and the grammy had long been one of those awards. Think about it, there is bias and politics all around us. The Dells have been in the music business for over 50 years, and they have JUST been recently inducted intto the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Is that fair? Think about it. If you draw the conclusion that I did, you will see where I'm coming from. Peace Yall!!

Anything else is for the imagination. >:(Double You know what kept the Tempts and other black artists from their just due!!! The powers that be kept that award from Motown for years previous to 1968. The Tempts could no longer be denied. Dennis just happened to be in the right place at the right time. The Temptations released many songs worthy of a grammy before Dennis joined the group and you KNOW it!!

Welcome Cameron...that's exactly the message I was trying to convey. This does not diminish Dennis' talent, by any means. The Tempts were well deserving of a grammy long before Dennis joined The Tempts.
