What's up with generation X. My young co worker told me she did not own a cast iron skillet. 'They are too heavy,' was her excuse. I have never heard of such! She uses a 'frying pan.' I could not imagine cooking without a cast iron skillet. Frying pans have their place, but I just couldn't make my cornbread or cook my catfish without one. To me, somethings just require a good old fashioned skillet. Plus, I might need it to crack JL upside his hard head with it! ;D

To me, food tastes better from an iron skillet than the regular almuninum(sp?) pan, which btw, is not exactly healthy for you. My late great uncle was a welder & he said that using an iron pot(or skillet) was better than an aluminimum one because iron is a mineral that the body needs while too aluminimum(sp?) was detrimental to the body. So there are health benefits as well as the taste factor in using an iron skillet! Hey, leave poor JL alone! He didn't do nuffin to get his head cracked open! You're a rough one, ain't you CP? ;D

Seain, I heard the same thing...the food being cooked in the skillet absorbs the iron and it is much better for us because we could use iron.
I don't think I'm being ruff w/JL, gurl, his head is so hard that the only thing he'll feel would be something that heavy. Can you imagine that hard head putting dents in my aluminum pots? gurl, they wouldn't be fir to cook with! ;D Now with that skillet...sheesh...he could take a lickin and keep on tickin! ;D ;D

Cast Iron is great, but for certain things. Supposed you wanna kick the crap of some knuckle head dating your sister. Then you use cast iron.
I have a set of pans called le crusette. They are made like cast iron pans and I use them for certain cooking. And that cooking what I like to call show off cooking. They are Red and heavy and make the ladies think I am so together. But they aren't really all that great.
The cast Iron pans I have, I don't like either. That set is pretty much used for throw away cooking or when I have to put something on the grill when I am grilling.
Now, the pans I do like are my Calphalon pans. My non stick set is great and my stainless set is great. I take calphalon over all-clad any day of the week. I bought my mother, two of my ex girlfriends and my both of my aunts a set of their cheap line, which is ten times better than alot of other peoples top pan models. Everybody loves the calphalon.
If you all are looking for good pans, ask me about them. I really know my pots and pans. If yall are interested in some hard cooking, use copper pans. I have a copper set which makes daily cooking very fast, but you have to know how to use copper and you have to polish it.
People, please do not put your cookware (pans, knives, measuring tolls) in the dishwasher. Wash them by hand.

Sure you can put them in the oven, but why? That is why there are baking pans. You might like the mulitpurpose usage of cast iron, but it takes up too much space and it gets too hot in the oven. Light oven bakeware is essential.

Lawd Ham Mussy...a man who knows somethin about cooking! I was thinking of trying the calphalon. I see them on sale all the time. I have a pretty good set of Faberware and they look the same (almost) as they did when I bought them many years ago. I never put my cookware in the dishwasher. I scrub them by hand inside and out. You could cook on either side of my pots. If I am at someone's house and they offer me any food, I have to sneak a look at their cookware. If they have some old beat up, rusty, dented up pots...I do not eat their food. Ugh! It is important to take care with your cooking utensils...they are just as important as what you are cooking. I was at a kid's birthday party once and the lady didn't have a punch bowl or anything to make the frappe in...so do you know she had the nerve to grab a big old pot that you cook greens in and make the frappe. I could have slapped her! AFAT...are you a chef? You sound very knowledgeable.

Nope. I'm not a cook. I just love to cook. Cook and eat. I can't believe that you use farberware? They are funded by former south african owned companies. Oh, they say they aren't but I know the scoop. I used to work with a guy at a tennis club named jaques dutoit (yes, that is hit real name) he is south african and told me. I hate that fucker and I hate farberware. I won't use it and I suggest you throw it away.

AFAT, I saw in the paper yesterday that Rich's is having a sale on Calphalon...399 for a 13 pc set...if bought seperately, it would cost at least 799. Are those the ones you have? or are those the cheap ones? ;D

is that the 13pc set? I only buy 8pc sets and then I collect the other peices in full sets. but that sounds like you might be buying the 10 pc set.
But if you do not have many sets go and get that, girl. It will do you well.
