They say good things come to those who wait and after a show cancelled due to the bad weather and another one that was aborted due to a power failure in the theater The Review came back to The Bronx and performed.
I was delighted to meet up with Curet30 outside the theater and we caught up on things since the last time we saw each other( which was April 7th at the same spot) I was getting ready to go to the ATM when I spotted the limo so I made a u-turn back to the theater. When the limo door opened Dennis came out and I said to him..."You kinda like my neighborhood huh?" We laughed as the rest of the group came out..Chris told Curet and myself to walk with them into the theater...and in we went,no ticket,no pass but all access. We went into the dressing area where we saw Maurice "THE VOICE" Watts. He had us laughing with his Ali Woodson impression..he sounds just like the man when he talks. I has a bone to pick with David Sea..The night before the show it rained and I got caught out there and I said to myself..."That darn David Sea must be in town the way it's raining" He laughed at that one. Dennis told me about it being Mother's Day and how he misses his mother...amd how he misses MY mother...they passed months apart from each other so we have that in common. I saw Stuart from Black Ivory and I told him that I was glad that they got back together. I also met Jerry Butler and I told him that he looks just like my late uncle...I told him that if my aunt saw him he would have a problem. He's a very nice man.
Now for the show
The Review had on white outfits with short sleeve jackets and after hearing Ali and Dennis warming up I shold have known what to expect. Dennis gave the band instructions on what songs they were gonna do and everybody was ready....They started with "Standing On The Top","Psychedelic Shack","Ball Of Confusion" ,"I Can't Get Next To You" and "Cloud Nine". The audience had a hard time staying in their seats we could see them dancing in the front and the Review was lovin' it,right away you could tell that they really came to tear the place apart. Their voices were in fine form when they slowed the pace down with Mike's "Rainy Night In Georgia" the crowd ate it up. Ali followed with "Some Enchanted Evening" then Dennis came with "A Song For You" which he sang for his mom,it was her favorite song...it was my mom's favorite too.Right in the middle of the song he went into "Memories" and back to "A Song For You" and he wasn't playin' around he SANG THAT SONG just like the crowd urged him to do. The folks working security were impressed. Then they went back to the history of the Temptations with "Get Ready",Ain't Too Proud To Beg","Beauty's Only Skin Deep" The Way You Do The Things You Do" Lady Soul" "Don't Look Back". Dennis had to ask the crowd to sit down because the folks in the front rows couldn't see...so the went back to their seats..They group sang "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" then David Sea sang "I Wish It Would Rain" with every bit of emotion he had. Ali continued with "Treat Her Like A Lady" telling security to let the folks dance...they closed the show with "My Girl" and "Just My Imagination".Everybody enjoyed their set. They even had the four headed microphone stand. The Review was not messin' around they came to sing and boy did they ever sing. They came with their "A" game. As many times as I've seen them perform, there was something different in this show...I saw a group that enjoyed performing and enjoyed performing with each other you could see that they were having fun. I was very proud of them because they showed the Bronx and everybody in the theater that they were the best around. April 7th I left before the Review went on and I found out that the lights went out and they were unable to perform. This time I told them that I wasn't leaving before their show was over. LOL !And they paid me back by backing up my claim that THE REVIEW RULES !
