I went to the Tempts Review show at BB Kings. Man, WHAT.....A.....SHOW!!!!! The Review tore up the stage! Lawd, I don't know where to start! So be patient with me. I'm doing this all from memory, while it's still fresh. I can't remember the order of the songs but I remember most of them that they sang. Anyway, on to the Review:
The Uniforms:
The Review was looking SHARP! You hear me?? SHARP AS TACKS! They had on black satin suits with black rhinestones in them with crisp white shirts w/red collars & a red rose on each of the guys' lapel! They looked real good!
The Show:
Of course, the guys started off with 'Standing On the Top' , then moved on to sing 'Hello Young Lovers'. Man, the harmonies were wonderful on this song. I wish the Review would add another pop standard to their reportoire because they really reminded you of the C5. Matter of fact, everything they SANG, you could visualize the C5. I love the fact that when the guys(Bernard, Chris, David & Mike) sing, they do it in their own style. No 'imitations', just straight singing. But I digress.....
Then came the Tempts medley 'Get Ready', ' Ain't Too Proud To Beg', 'Don't Look Back'(Bernard did this song justice. Bernard does Bernard, not Paul), 'You're My Everything', 'Lady Soul'(man, David tore this bad boy UPPPPPPPPP!), & 'Papa Was A Rolling'. Then, if I recall (it all happened so fast!), Dennis said some words about the C5 & named the 4 deceased members(David, Eddie, Paul & Melvin). They also sang 'Ball Of Confusion' which had the crowd ROCKIN! I've never nor do I plan, to see O's show but I doubt he can top any of Dennis' led songs. I mean, 'Ball Of Confusion', 'Cloud Nine', 'I Can't Get Next To You', was all given the Dennis-led, C5 treatment. Everything was so well coordinated & soulful, it was hard to contain myself. LOL. ;D ;D ;D There were times I wanted to get out of my seat but I didn't want to look like the only fool in the club. LOL! ;D I was happy that Dennis also gave the fellas some stage time. As I mentioned before, Bernard was in great form, singing 'Don't Look Back' & 'Just My Imagination'(which came towards the end of the show). It was great to hear Chris(this is the one who does the falsetto, right?) sing 'You're My Everything' with David Sea. Mike gave 'Rainy Night In Georgia' just the right touch. Very subtle & sweet. And of course, Mr. David Sea did the David-led songs & wore everybody's arse out. LOL! David did his usual 'I Wish It Would Rain' monologue & it brought the house down. David sounded great & was really showing out. Of course by this time, Dennis sang 'Don't Look Any Further' which sent everyone into a frenzy & ended the show with 'My Girl'(David sang lead on this one too.
All in all, it was a awesome & wonderful evening & I had a chance to meet Bernard(he gives nice hugs! ;D ;D ) & shake Dennis' hand(courtesy of a poster from SD named 'JuiceFree'. That meant alot to me & I really am hoping that Dennis & the Revue come back to NYC. Too bad I couldn't stay to see the second show. I'm sure that one was probably off the hook as well! And yeah, I got pics. Lots of them. LOL! I had two cheap disposable cameras but I had good seats so I'm hoping I got some good pics. The End. ;D ;D ;D
