I'll try to give this review as coherently as possible. I'm still excited from the concert and my thoughts might be a little jumbled...but you'll get my drift. The concert was simply [glow=red,2,300]FANTASTIC!!! [/glow]
The Review wore the Purple/lilac uniforms they wore on the PBS Special. They looked well and they were ready to kick butt! When Dennis paid homage to David, Eddie, Dennis, and Melvin, he introduced each member of the group. I was shocked when Mike Patillo rendered a beautiful rendition of I Truly Believe. I'd never heard him do it before and believe me, he did it wonderfully! Bernard Gibson showed out when he did For Once In My Life! Whew! It was a very moving tribute to Paul. Brought a tear to my eye. When Dennis was introducing Chris Arnold, it sounded like Chris was going to sing Try To Remember. I blurted out, "NO, he is not going to sing that song!" The lady next to me looked at me and rolled her eyes. It wasn't that I didn't want Chris to sing that song; rather, I knew if he sang that song at that particular moment I was going to lose it! Bernard had already brought a tear to my eye and if Chris had sung that song, I would have broken down and cried. Instead Chris sang Can I. His voice was crystal clear and his delivery was sooo smooth. I was really proud of him. I looked around me and people in the audience had their eyes glued to the stage and their mouths open when he sang that song. I am not sure if this is when David Sea sang Since I Lost My Baby or not , but when he sang this , he had audience participation in the person of Pastor TL Barrett, my former pastor and friend. TL can sang his behind off! He and David Sea took us to church, literally. When Pastor's line came he changed it to Since I found my Jesus! He and David gospelized that song so much so, I was ready to come down for the benediction by the time they got thru. ;D For all the steppers in the house, please be advised...DENNIS CAN STEP! I forgot which song they were singing, but Dennis said he had to let the Chicago folks know he can step too. He glided across that stage 'old skool smooth.' What the heck did he do that for? Every stepper in the park got up and started steppin! It's like when folks in Chicago, hear the word 'step', they automatically get up and start steppin.
At one point in the show Dennis was singing Brickhouse and brought four young ladies to the stage and let them shake it. I liked that part of the show. the ladies were really having fun. Of course Dennis had to sing God Bless America! This was very moving also. There was no My Girl or Naturally. David Sea sang It's Growing and Beauty's Only Skin Deep. He and Chris smoked You're My Everything...you could not help but think of David and Eddie. I'll let Jill tell you about them singing Stay. I like the way she describes it.
They performed for at least two hours and we still did not want them to leave the stage. I had a wonderful time and really enjoyed this concert...more than any previous one. Each time I see them perform, they get better and better. The only dissappointment was them leaving stage!
We did have a chance to holla at Dennis and Bernard after the show. As usual, they were lookin good and smellin good...those handsome devils!
I'll be back with more comments latah. I'll let some of the others give their take on the concert.
