Tru, will you please explain to Seain what a rough dried shirt is! ;D ;D She was listening to Eddie sing This Used To Be The Home of Johnnie Mae and she was wondering what the hell a rough dried shirt. I am still rolling of the floor over that one.

Ever done laundry and for some reason not been able to dry it properly? So it just sort of air dries, but not properly like out on the line.
That's what I've always taken it to mean. Rough dried, like hang drying in the living room, thrown over a chair! (you know, cause eddie can't do his laundry properly, which leads to him crying a little...each day)
By the way. Were any of eddie's early solo efforts ever on CD, other than "people...hold on" ....? I have an awful time finding much of this music. Do you all have any secrets?
Well...later.

Hello kidcapri, Unfortunately, there are only compliations of Eddie's work on CD. Your best bet is to get Eddie's Ultimate Collection & I think another compliation called "The Eddie Kendrick's Essential Collection" or something like that. You can also, if you go to ebay, can hear Eddie on Hall & Oates: A night at the Apollo w/Eddie & David Ruffin or the Ruffin/Kendrick CD, that they recorded in 85-86. Hope that helps!

Thanks. Already have those two!
I have seen copies of "MY PEOPLE, HOLD ON" on EBAY, but they usually go for around $30. And I'm sure the mastering is pretty awful as it's a CD from the early 80s I believe.
I guess I'll continue to try using kazaa. Which I've had some luck with (I've got at least an album's worth of stuff that is unavailable on CD). Anyways. .. thanks.
Do you think motown will ever give proper respect to eddie's early solo album releases?

Kidcapri! I like your definition of rough dried shirt! My grandmother used to call anything that wasn't ironed and starched, crisply rough dried! The last time I checked on Half.com, they had Ultimate Collection, At His Best, People Hold On, Millenium Collection, and Vintage 78. They were reasonably priced too...like under ten dollars. They were cd's too. Amazon usually has a pretty good selection too. My early Eddie solos are mostly on vinyl. I am looking to replace them on cd. Have you heard The Temptations...One By One. There are some nice Eddie selections on there too. Latah!

Kid Capri & CP, Thanks a bunch. I didn't realize that Eddie had some of his LP's on CD. I've never seem them in any of the record stores I went to. I'm gonna have to try some other stores to see if I have any luck......I'm hoping that Motown would release a box set on Eddie & David. To me, it is long overdue. BTW, have you ever used winmx? I've heard about it but don't know how it works. Oh, and welcome to the board!

Hey.
I haven't used minmx.
I use "kazaa lite", and while I wouldn't say that I love it, it has gotten my gobs of material unavailable otherwise from ruffin and kendricks. Of course it can be depressing as the kendricks song "each day i cry a little" has fast become one of my favorites, but it's cut off at the end and has a really nast 'pop' at the beginning!
I think I'm going to end up trying to put together the 'proper' albums of eddie and david, though it's definitely going to be tough.
Anyways...I would reccommend "kazaa lite"... make sure to get the 'lite' version though as from what I hear 'kazaa' puts spyware on your computer....
Later.

Hey Kidcapri,
I'm doing the same thing, literally buying the vinyl recordings outright & then burn them to CD. Right now, I haven't burned any songs yet because I'm hoping to get another drive to store them on. There's a bunch of stuff that I would love to put on CD & listen to where ever I go.
Thanks for telling me about Kazaa lite. I've been hearing & reading quite a bit about spyware, which is why I've been reluctant to download anything onto my computer.

((CP)) now you know you need to stop making fun of me and ((SeaInD)) because you know good and well I don't know what a "rough dried shirt" is either! Remember how you laughed at me hysterically about that? LOL! Don't feel bad ((SeaInD)), I proudly don't know what a "rough dried shirt" or a "Mu Dear" is either! I don't even know how to pronounce "Mu Dear" LOL. I'm East Coast /Tri-State, baby! I don't know that country shit HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! (Uh oh I'm gonna get it now!). Welcome ((kidcapri))! I remember hearing that the "Eddie Kendricks" LP was released on CD in the mid-80's because that's the LP that "Keep On Truckin'" is on. I'll tell you the Eddie solo secret...................come in close now....................(whispering) it's................... buy albums . Besides the various compilation CD's and "Vintage 78", all my Eddie solo material is on vinyl. It took me a couple of years, but I did finally manage to get ALL of his stuff (even "Surprise Attack" and that song Eddie did with Dennis in '91 "Get It While It's Hot"). Just hit the pavement, ask around, or go to ebay or www.gemm.com (use these websites as a last resort because they can get awfully expensive - especially gemm). I'm longing for the day that I can get "Boogie Down" on remastered CD! (keeping my fingers crossed), or "All By Myself", or "Slick", or "For You" (I swoon at the mere thought of hearing "Please Don't Go Away" in fine, remastered glory!). Later

Hello Duchess. I don't see myself getting any LPs as I don't even have a turntable! A note though: when I'm prowling for kendricks cds on Ebay I've seen a lot of vinyl for both him and ruffin going for cheap. I must say though...from what I've gotten so far, ruffin's unreleased stuff seems much more, ummm, worthy of being unreleased! Whereas the sampling of eddie that I've gotten has some truly exceptional cuts that I can't believe are unavailable on cd! A travesty! Especially when there's what, at least 3 different greatest hit compilations for every top-tier act (you've got the 1 disc ultimate collection, the 2 disc anthology and then the box sets!) and they can't be bothered to remaster to cd two of their greatest front men ever's solo stuff? Heck, you can't even get 'wish it would rain' on cd. What's up with that? Anyway...I'm starting to rant. I guess it's just all business, and let's face it, there's just not the demand for this stuff. The david and eddie ultimate collections will more than satisfy the casual listeners. SeainDennis, do you think once you have your collection all burned out onto cd in the future that we could perhaps work out an arrangement!? Those lps on cd would be worth an awful lot to me.

Hey Kidcapri, Now wait a minute, David's material "was more worthy of being unreleased"?! Now, I know David didn't have the best material to work with due to his strain relationship with Gordy & Motown, but some of it excellent. I have all of David's songs on cassette & vinyl, & one thing I can say about David is that he never gave a shitty performance on record. His voice was always powerful & commanding, though on some of those Van McCoy recordings, he was doing too much hollering. ;D I still have several more of David's LPs to buy & then it's on! I will try to burn all of them to CD. I've already burned Gentleman Ruffin & So Soon We Change. Ironically, I have So Soon... on tape & I'm now convinced that burning a cassette to CD just doesn't cut it. To me, something in the sound quality is lost, sort of. When it comes directly from vinyl, the sound is "fuller", at least it sounds that way to me. Strange, because I have a whole bunch of tapes that I was hoping to burn to CD, with songs that don't get radio airplay anymore. Anyway, once I get all of the David's work, then I will work on Eddie's, etc., I hope to have them on CD. BTW, I just saw "I Wish It Would Rain"/ "Mellow Mood" CD as a two-fer up for sale on ebay. Check it out! And nope, I wouldn't mind hooking you up once I get finished, which might be awhile. Ha ha ha ha!

Sorry there.
Of course it's due to the material/arrangements. From what I can tell, david had his pipes his whole life. I just got a crackly "message from maria" that's really outstanding.
I shouldn't have dropped that remark when I've only given these mp3s a passing glance so far. That's me, running my mouth!
In other news I just ran across the full 8 minute + version of "I miss you" by harold melvin and the blue notes. Good lord, it's just the best!
Later, y'all.

LOL@ "crackly message to maria". ;D No, it's cool. If that's how you feel, no biggie! I like an upfront person so you're cool with me! To be honest, I actually prefer vinyl to CD, simply because of the sound quality. CD's are convienent(sp?) but there is something missing once the songs are mastered on CD. This is the only reason why when I burn a CD, I prefer to use a vinyl LP, instead of a cassette. Sorry for boring you silly but for me, CD's are convienent. I haven't got a Mp3 player so I'm pretty much out of the loop on that one. ;D Now, that Harold Melvin & Bluenotes 8mins + has be enjoyed in it's entire version. Man, I think that was one of the best songs that ever came out of Philly Intern'l.
