G.C. Cameron Joins The Temptations Reported by: MAA News members.aol.com/maainc/index.html and relayed by Chatbusters. We knew that it was coming, but not in such a big way. It was reported that the Spinners' great G.C. Cameron has taken the place of current Temptation member Barrington Henderson. Cameron, who is a Motowner from the late 60's early 70's, just recently sang on stage with the Spinners on a recent PBS program. Cameron's greatest claim to fame was becoming the lead vocalist of the Spinners while they were with Motown in the early 70's. He wound up singing the leads on their first major hit "It's A Shame". Cameron eventually went solo, and racked up a number of recordings on separate labels throughout the years. G.C. is currently in California rehearsing with the group. MAA Comment: We think this is an excellent move for the Temptations; Cameron is a seasoned professional, with great charisma. The kind of charisma Baby Boomers like! You know, G.C. is a good looking cat! I hope he does well in his new post as Tempt. I've never heard him sing live but from what I've heard, he's still delivers the goods! Much success to G.C.!  |

;D ;D Oh my word!! LOL!! Welcome (((Wil Dixon)))! As FF stated, could you explain your reasons why the Tempts should give it up? Personally, I've felt they should've given up after Dennis left in the '70s but that's JMHO. Very interested to know why you feel the way you do .  |

Hey Seain! I don't think they should have given up in the 70's after Dennis left. They were doing good until the late seventies. I think they should have tried to work things out with Dennis,hell, make that Paul, Eddie, and even David. That's the sound they were known for and what makes them classics today. I am sure other groups have had internal problems and dealt with them, which is evident in some groups that have had the same members! I think once Otis found out that he could trade them in for whatever reason, he just kept getting rid of them cuz they could be replaced, which is why he has been trading members...wearching for that illusive Classic sound! I just feel like that after Dennis & especially Paul Williams, were gone, it just seem the life had gone out of the group. I mean, they have had their moments, especially when Ali & Dennis returned at various times, but it seemed it would've been better if they had gone out on top instead of limping alone like they did throughout the '80s & 90s. I mean, remember when we were discussing the footage of "Standing On The Top" w/Rick James & you had mentioned how they looked like a bunch of old men in tuxes & such? LOL!  I have to admit that when I saw that footage back in the early '80s as a teen, the first thought was, who are these old guys, tryin to be hip? I was more interested in RJ. LOL! I just think the problem lies with too many baiting & switching members. I still bought a couple of their records regardless since I did love oldies music when it wasn't in vogue. Anyway, I'm digressing.....I guess for me, maybe they need to get together with someone like an R. Kelly who could revitalize their image(of course, it would kinda hilarious to watch the Tempts actin like gangstas & pimps! LOL!) & give them a new sound. It worked wonders for Ron Isley & his record debuted at number 1!! |

Hey Seain! Hold up there, girl! I think it's only room for ONE Mr. Biggs! ;D What has happened...Mr Biggs has gained a whole new following, some don't have the slightest clue about some of The Isley's greatet music. While there are some like you, who don't like the Mr Biggs persona. I can't in my wildest imagination see The Tempts as pimps and playas!  I think maybe Rick James was used to serve that purpose in the 80s by working with The Tempts. Pumping fresh blood into a old group. I didn't like their music with Rick...maybe because I was not that crazy about him. I admit, he had a few smokin hits...especially with Tina Marie. I can understand groups coming to an impasse in their careers. I guess some see it as overcoming this obstacle. I think The Tempts problem is simply...they are not soulful enuff. I have heard they worked with Gerald Levert and some other younger artists; but I have a hunch, and it's only a hunch...that they are stuck in this glitzy, glamour, Vegasy shyt. That's all well and good, but like Jay says... they got to 'BRANG IT!' They ain't branging it...that's why they are using GC to go on tour with them up against The OJays and The Whispers... ;D |

With the exception of Theo & Ali, the vocalists who perform, especially the C5 material, just don't have the chops to do the material justice. I saw Dennis & the Ojays back to back, with Dennis as the opening act. Dennis was SMOKIN & Eddie Levert kept the MOMENTEUM GOING!!!! See, only a true experienced Soul singer could do that. If you going to be singing with the likes of the Whispers & The Ojays, you got to come correct & all that stylin & profilin just doesn't cut it!!! But as O said, he's gonna ride the horse until its bald.  Po' horsey! LOL! ;D |

Hey now, you gotta give it up to Ali-Ollie Woodson for holding it down though. Come on, he was just as good as Dennis (But Dennis is the original of course) and was just as polished as Ruffin. He had the pipes and the moves. He could do stuff new and old. He was always ahead of his time. You didn't like "Lady Soul"? Or "Treat Her Like A Lady?" or "Life Is But A Dream"? Ali-Ollie Woodson makes G.C. look like Brian Mcknight makes Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys look when it comes to singing. My god have you heard the latest single? You can't even hear Ron's falsetto at the top of the harmony. I dont know how but it sounds like 5 Terry's! That's wrong! IT's like "50/50 Love" by Terry Weeks, Featuring G.C. Cameron. Plus the sound is like a Bad Fusion of 112 and Blackstreet. My god they've completely lost the sound they used to have. At least up until "Awesome", all their vocals were their own. Terrible........ just Terrible. I think they did that because G.C. can't harmonize. He's been a soloist too long and has no experience with harmony backgrounds. He'd probably mess it up. He's a great soloist, granted, that's a given. But in a group where he's not the only lead......... naaaaaaaaah........

Hey FunkyFT.  AT, I think Ali is a helluva singer and performer. Not mentioning him was a slip of the fonts. IMO, he is the last of The Tempts that left an indelible impression on me. They started blending together after that. They just lost their flavor to me. I think GC's voice is like Dennis' ...you can't use a voice like his to carry the whole show. It just can't take all that pressure...the gruffness becomes a struggle. I always enjoyed listening to GC...to me he has a very beautiful voice with power! |

It just can't take all that pressure...the gruffness becomes a struggle. I always enjoyed listening to GC...to me he has a very beautiful voice with power! Not to me. On 50/50 love, it sounded like his voice was about to blow out. Plus all i've seen of him was not impressive at all. Anyway, I'm glad you love Ali the way I do. He is the last of the versatile anchor leads that I could respect fully. Dennis was great and psychadelic but he was not my favorite. David Ruffin always was my favorite. |

I THINK GC IS A GREAT SINGER ONE THING WE CAN SAY ABOUT OTIS HE'S NOT A QUITTER THEY WOULDVE GAVE UP AS FAR AS 1968 DAVID RUFFIN LEFT THE GROUP OR EVEN IN 71 WHEN EDDIE AND PAUL LFT THE GROUP. IMAGINE IF DENNIS SANG ALL THOSE SONGS AS A SOLOLIST I WONDER WHAT TYPE OF CARRER BIG DENNIS WOULD'VE HAD
